CASH FOR RECOVERY :ZRCS EMPOWERS 165 FAMILIES IN MONZE

Zambia Red Cross Society’s initiative in Monze is a strong example of how humanitarian organizations are shifting toward cash-based assistance rather than only distributing goods. Cash support empowers families to make choices that best fit their immediate needs. 165 beneficiaries in Bwengwa Constituency, today received a total of K3,000, which is a lump sum, of, 5 monthly instalments paid at once, which provides both short-term relief and a measure of stability.

This activity also highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration, which included, local government, social welfare and Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, who were all present, ensuring transparency and accountability. Earlier, ZRCS had already provided non-food relief items like mosquito nets, chlorine, 20 liter water storage containers and items of clothing, addressing urgent survival needs, then enabling recovery through cash assistance.

Cash assistance is, being recognized as one of the most effective humanitarian tools worldwide. It reduces logistical costs, supports local markets, and restores dignity by letting families decide what matters most to them.

ZRCS’s commitment here reflects a broader global trend in humanitarian response.
