NOT FOR THE PLATE, BUT FOR PROGRESS | ZRCS FLAGS OFF GOAT DISTRIBUTION IN SINAZONGWE

The Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) on 10 April 2026 flagged off the distribution of 661 goats to 160 beneficiaries in Sinazongwe District, aimed at strengthening livelihoods and building community resilience through sustainable small livestock production.
The initiative is supported by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in partnership with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, which is providing technical support through training in animal husbandry.

Speaking during the flag-off, ZRCS National Social Welfare Chairperson, Mrs. Deborah Mwansa, urged beneficiaries to treat the goats as long-term economic assets by focusing on breeding and integrating them into livestock production rather than immediate consumption.

The intervention is expected to enhance and diversify household income, as well as improve food security in vulnerable communities.
