ZAMBIA RED CROSS SOCIETY HANDS OVER NEW WASH FACILITIES IN LUSAKA PROVINCE

Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) has invested Fifteen million, six hundred kwacha, to deliver water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities across 33 schools in Lusaka, Chilanga, Chongwe, and Kafue. A major boost in protecting pupils and communities from cholera and other preventable diseases.

The symbolic handover at Edwin Mulongoti Primary School in Matero on 2/10/25 showcased solar-powered boreholes, sanitation blocks, and handwashing stations that will directly benefit thousands of learners and surrounding households.

Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Water and Sanitation and Lusaka Province commended ZRCS for complementing government’s efforts on disaster risk reduction, epidemic preparedness, and climate resilience.

ZRCS Board Health Chairperson, Dr. Kapina, noted that the facilities are “investments in the well-being and future of our children,” while urging school authorities and communities to safeguard the infrastructure for sustainability.

Funded by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the project strengthens health and resilience while creating safer learning environments.
