ZAMBIA RED CROSS SOCIETY HOSTS REGIONAL WORKSHOP TO STRENGTHEN AFRICA’S EPIDEMIC RESPONSE THROUGH SAVING LIVES & LIVELIHOODS PROGRAMME

ambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) hosted a 2-day strategic reorientation workshop for the Saving Lives & Livelihoods (SLL) programme under the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), funded by the Mastercard Foundation. SLL project aims to strengthen Africa’s ability to respond to future epidemics and pandemics.

The workshop looked at equipping National Societies with knowledge on the programme’s scope, compliance, and reporting in line with the Mastercard Foundation’s donor requirements.

The meeting was graced by Dr. Lul Rick, who is Africa CDC Regional Director for Southern Africa and brought together Secretary Generals from six Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies within the region, along with key stakeholders from the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The following Secretary Generals were in attendance: Mr. Cosmas Sakala, Zambia Red Cross Society, Mr. Elias Hwenga, Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, Mr. Chifundo Kalulu, Malawi Red Cross Society (represented by Head of Health, Mr. Dan Banda), Dr. Glynis Harrison, Namibia Red Cross Society, Mr. Kuthlwano Mukokomani, Botswana Red Cross Society, Mr. Sechaba Mokhameleli, Lesotho Red Cross Society, Mr. Kopano Masilo, Head of Delegation, IFRC Pretoria Cluster. 

Key discussions centered on ensuring timely grant implementation, efficient resource utilization, and strategic coordination to enhance humanitarian response across the region.
